CCD sensor dust removal - shake it, baby , aehm Pentax!
Most of the Pentax digital SLR cameras, such as my Pentax K100D Super, have a CCD sensor dust removal feature. The feature works by literally shaking dust particles off. Until now, I always considered this more as a curious oddity than as useful. Half an hour ago, though, I discovered some strange shadow in some of my photos that was not supposed to be there. It did not take me long to discover a dust particle on the sensor. Apparently, just being careful when changing lenses is not enough to keep the sensor clean. I am sure I could have removed it with a blower, but I did not have any clean air sources handy. Luckily, repeated use of the camera’s dust removal feature got rid of the annoying artifacts in my photos. Apparently, the dust removal feature is more than just another gimmick.
